Current market needs
The demand for health records professionals is growing rapidly due to the increasing use of electronic health records (EHRs). EHRs are digital versions of a patient’s medical history and are used to store, manage, and share patient information. Health records professionals are responsible for the creation, maintenance, and security of EHRs.
Examination
Our students will have their exams administered internally by Amref International Training Center (AITC) and an external exam administered by TVET/CDACC.
Duration: This course will take a maximum of up to three years which will give a total of nine trimesters inclusion of theory learning and practical experience in a hospital setup.

Overview
Diploma in Health Records and IT Level 6 is a competency-based TVETA approved program that is offered at Amref International Training Center (The Amref International University-Tvet Directorate).
The course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies necessary to establish, manage and maintain medical records. The student will also gains an understanding of the principles of health information management and the complexity of the healthcare systems, both in private and public sectors of the economy.
Course objectives
Upon completion of the Diploma in Health Records, students will be able to:
- Apply the principles of health informatics to manage and maintain medical records
- Analyze epidemiological disease patterns and trends
- Use advanced statistics to interpret health data
- Manage health systems and resources
- Apply health economics to healthcare decision-making
- Monitor and evaluate health projects

Course Duration-2 and Half Years – Seven Semesters ((5 classwork and 2 for Industrial attachment))

The minimum entry requirements for the Diploma in Health Records are: A mean grade of C plain in K.C.S.E or A Certificate in Health Records and IT from a recognized institution
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C (plain) OR
b) Certificate In Health Records and IT Level 5 OR
c) Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) OR
d) Any other International qualifications to get approval from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)
