Current market needs
The market requires pharmaceutical technologists who are proficient in pharmaceutical manufacturing and production processes, especially with the rise of complex biologics and personalized medicine. Additionally, there’s need to address the challenge of rapid expansion due to growing demand and increased focus on investing in human resources particularly in the health sector.
Examination – The examinations for the award of Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology will be conducted by Amref International University and licensed by Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
Duration – This is a non-modular full-time programme designed to have a minimum duration of 2,541 hours (Three academic years) plus six (6) months of practical attachment.

Course Overview
The programme purpose is to produce a Pharmaceutical Technologist who will ensure personal responsibility for learning, development and a foundation for subsequent continuing professional development, effectively communicate with patients, peers and other healthcare professionals, apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills in their professional practice, uphold legal, professional and ethical standards, participate in health research, and provide Pharmaceutical Care to patients.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology students will be able to : –
(a) Meet the increased demand for trained personnel to provide health services.
(b) Contribute towards economic, technological and professional development.
(c) Increase access to quality health care.
(d) Render quality health care services.
(e) Meet the changing health demands and requirements of the population.
(f) Promote good health by providing safe, efficacious, quality and affordable medicine and health care services.

Course duration: 3 Academic years – 9 Trimesters (7 classwork and 2 for practical attachment)

Mode of delivery: Fulltime – Face to Face (Monday-Friday; 8AM – 5PM)
Entry Requirements
Applicants for this course should satisfy the following minimum requirements: –
a. Must have passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a mean grade of C (Plain) or its equivalent as equated by KNEC.
b. Must have scored a minimum of C (Plain) in the following four Cluster subjects:
i. English or Kiswahili.
ii. Chemistry or Physical Science.
iii. Biology or Biological Science.
iv. Mathematics or Physics.
c. Any other international qualifications to get approval from the KNQA (Kenya National Qualification Authority).
