Department of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences
Our commitment extends beyond education; we aim to nurture compassionate, skilled, and visionary healthcare professionals who respond to the evolving needs of Kenya, Africa, and the world.
Our Story
The Department of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences (DNMS) has been in existence for over 17 years. The department was established in 2007 to offer blended e-learning for nurses who were upgrading from certificate to diploma. It was the first institution to offer blended training for nurses in the country to upgrade nurses from certificate to degree. The department is also committed to training clinical-oriented mental health practitioners. Currently, the department has nine programs, with over 500 students in the different programs.
To provide holistic, quality nursing and midwifery education that promotes the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
To be a leading department in the training of transformational health leaders and practitioners who drive positive change in healthcare delivery.
We are driven by a clear purpose, to train human resources for health capable of addressing society’s disease burden through Primary Health Care and community-based approaches.
Who We Are
About the Department of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences (DNMS)
At the Department of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences, we are dedicated to producing competent, ethical, and globally competitive nurses and midwives. Our programs, offered at both diploma and degree levels, focus on Primary Health Care (PHC) and are designed to strengthen Kenya’s and Africa’s health systems.
Our philosophy centers on holistic education that integrates knowledge, practice, leadership, and community engagement. Through a blend of classroom instruction, digital learning, and clinical exposure, we prepare transformational healthcare leaders equipped with the skills and attitudes necessary to improve health outcomes locally and globally.
