Since its inception, the department has continued to play a pivotal role in strengthening health systems through education, research, and community partnerships.
Our Story
The Department of Community Health is proudly recognized as the founding department of Amref International University (AMIU) — the cornerstone upon which the university’s legacy of health education was built.
Formally established as a fully-fledged department on 1st August 2017, the Department of Community Health was created to address a critical need in training competent Public Health Practitioners capable of driving sustainable health solutions across Africa.

We are a team of educators, researchers, and practitioners dedicated to shaping the next generation of Community and Public Health leaders.
The Department of Community Health exists to bridge the gap in Public Health training across Africa, producing graduates who are competent, compassionate, and transformative in their approach to improving health outcomes.
Our programs emphasize Primary Health Care (PHC), health promotion, and disease prevention, ensuring that our graduates have the knowledge, skills, and values needed to serve at both community and national levels.
