The department offers training in Nursing and Midwifery, both at diploma and degree level, the focus of the department is to train human resources for health for Kenya and the region with a focus on PHC.
Our Story
The Department of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences (DNMS)has been in existence for over 15 years. The Department was established in 2007 to offer blended e-learning for nurses who were upgrading from certificate to diploma.
It was the first institution to offer blended training of nurses in the country to upgrade nurses from certificate to degree. The department is also committed to training clinical-oriented mental health practitioners.
Currently the department has nine programs, with over 500 students in the different programs.

The department aims to produce global nurses and healthcare leaders who have the relevant leadership skills, knowledge and attitudes.

Our Work
DNMS trains health care professionals in Nursing and Midwifery by offering market driven courses, this enables our graduates to provide leadership in PHC and to meet the needs of the communities where they are placed.
The Department recently has secured a scholarship from Amref Health Africa, to provide an opportunity for girls from marginalized communities to access higher education this is in line with the University’s strategic pillar on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
