Celebrating the Success of the Tekeleza Project in Kajiado County!
On September 2, 2024, AMIU celebrated the close-out meeting of the Tekeleza Project in Namanga, Kajiado County. This transformative initiative, launched in 2021, enhanced maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH) across Kajiado, Migori, and Kisii counties. Over 1,000 health care workers were upskilled, over 3,000 pregnancies screened, and significant health-seeking behaviors were encouraged through technology-driven solutions like the Lucy App.
A Thrilling Welcome to Our New Transformation Leaders
AMIU welcomed a new cohort on 2nd September of over 3,500 students from more than 25 countries, embarking on their journey in Primary Health Care training. As future leaders in health, these students join a vibrant academic community committed to inspiring lasting change across Africa.

East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit Media Launch
On September 19, 2024, AMIU hosted the media launch for the upcoming 2025 East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit. Collaborating with prestigious organizations such as the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Africa CDC, and Kenya Vision 2030, AMIU is helping to develop sustainable strategies to address critical health challenges across East Africa.

AMIU SRC Meets with the University Management Board
On 23rd September The AMIU Student Representative Council (SRC) had a productive meeting with the University Management Board to review the AMIUSO Constitution draft. This collaboration reflects the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive academic environment that listens to and addresses the needs of students.
Alumni Bite:
Jennifer Kiarie returned to her Alma Mater on 25th September and had the opportunity to reconnect with Dr.Lucy Njiru, Dean of the School of Medical Sciences at AMIU. Her heartfelt gratitude for Dr.Njiru’s unwavering belief and support throughout her journey was immense. Jennifer is now dedicated to serving others and advocating for mental health as she is equipped with essential skills in clinical practical, enabling her growth as a therapist and life coach as she undertook her Advanced Diploma in Applied Mental Health Practice Program here at AMIU.

AMIU Signs MoU with the Kenya Scouts Association
On September 26, 2024, AMIU signed an MoU with the Kenya Scouts Association to empower youth through leadership development, career guidance, and project management. Scouts will benefit from internships, career readiness programs, and skills in entrepreneurship, ensuring they are equipped for the future.
Section 6: Community Outreach
Launch of the Ablution Block at Nairobi West Men’s Prison
AMIU on the 26th of September, with funding from Amref Salud África, proudly launched a newly constructed ablution block at Nairobi West Men’s Prison. This facility will serve sports enthusiasts and AMIU ball teams using the adjacent pitch. The collaboration between AMIU and the correctional facility is a testament to the university’s dedication to community health and innovative public health interventions.
Section 7: Achievements and Milestones
Fundraising Success for the Physiotherapy Innovation and Rehabilitation Centre (PIRC)
In commemoration of World Physiotherapy Day 2024, AMIU hosted a walk led by Prof. Joachim Osur to raise funds for the upcoming Physiotherapy Innovation and Rehabilitation Centre. This state-of-the-art facility will further strengthen AMIU’s commitment to advancing healthcare education and services in Kenya.
