AMIU’s Successful Week in Spain (October 7th to 11th) of the #Conversextion Project
Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health Through Global Partnerships
Amref International University (AMIU), in partnership with Amref Salud África, Africa Mundi, CJAS (Colectivo de Jóvenes Activistas Sociales), and with generous support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), successfully concluded a transformative week under the #Conversextion project. This initiative, aimed at empowering young people and advocating for their sexual and reproductive health rights, has highlighted the power of global collaborations in addressing critical health issues.
A Look Back at the Week
From 7th to 11th October , AMIU alongside its partners engaged in impactful activities designed to promote awareness, education, and policy advancements in sexual and reproductive health (SRH):
– Day 1: The week commenced with dynamic discussions that revisited the progress of the #Conversextion project and brainstormed future initiatives. This session reaffirmed the collective commitment to ensuring the sexual and reproductive rights of young people in Kenya and Spain.
– Day 2: The team had the privilege of visiting the Rectorate of Universidad de Alcalá (UAH) to explore groundbreaking public health and infectious disease initiatives led by Dr. Consuelo Giménez. In Madrid, a thought-provoking panel discussion at CaixaForum, titled “Sex Will Be Feminist and Anti-Racist, or It Will Not Be”, brought together leading voices in SRH advocacy.
– Day 3: The collaboration took a creative turn with the recording of a podcast series in partnership with Fundación Sexpol, supported by the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The day concluded with engaging sessions with the Madrid Salud team, where the group gained insights into innovative local SRH policies and programs.
– Day 4: The week wrapped up with impactful podcast recordings featuring young leaders from Kenya and Spain, aimed at educating and empowering the next generation. The day also included an enriching visit to the Family Planning Federation (FPFE), where partners reflected on the significance of collaboration in advancing SRH.
A Note of Gratitude
AMIU extends its deepest gratitude to the incredible partners who made this project possible. Special appreciation goes to Amref Salud África, Africa Mundi, CJAS, Fundación Sexpol, and the Family Planning Federation (Sedra-Cejas). The unwavering support of AECID, through the visionary leadership of Alba Gómez Gil, has been instrumental in bringing this initiative to life.
The success of this phase is a testament to the commitment of young leaders, dedicated teams, and collaborative efforts across nations.
Continuing the Journey
While the chapter of the #Conversextion project concluded, it marked the beginning of new endeavors. AMIU reaffirms its commitment to advancing sexual and reproductive health education, fostering cross-border dialogues, and championing the rights of young people.
