Overview
Diploma in Social Work and Community Development Level 6 is a competency-based TVETA approved program that is offered at Amref International Training Center (The Amref International University-TVET Directorate) aimed at equipping students with knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies that will enable them to work with all types of vulnerable people, groups and communities to help them learn to live better lives.

Course Duration-2 Years – 6 Semesters (4 classwork and 2 for Industrial attachment)
Intakes: January/April/August
Provision for Industrial attachment
It is envisaged that the trainee will have undergone an industrial training and assessment with a recognized Social work and community development institution for a period of 12 weeks as a prerequisite for completion of this training course.
Assessment
The course will be assessed at two levels: internally and externally. Internal assessment is continuous and is conducted by the trainer who is monitored by an internal accredited verifier while external assessment is the responsibility of TVET CDACC.
As part of the continuous internal assessment process, trainees will maintain a portfolio of evidence of their achievements.
Certification
On successful completion of a Unit of Learning, a trainee will be issued with a Certificate that acknowledges the achievement of that competence. On successful completion of all units of learning, a trainee will be awarded a Social work and community development Diploma qualification.
a) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C- (minus),
OR
b) Certificate Social Work and Community Development Level 5
OR
c) Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)
OR
d) Any other International qualifications should get approval from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)
Upon completion, a student qualifies as a social work, probation officer, case officer, children officer, community development officer, community outreach coordinator among other roles related to social work and community development. In addition, a student can advance studies to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Community Development, Community Health, Counseling Psychology, or Medical Social Work programs amongst others as determined by KNQA.
