The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Public Health is an advanced programme designed to develop visionary leaders, researchers, and public health practitioners capable of addressing complex health challenges at local, regional, and global levels. The programme equips graduates with the knowledge, analytical skills, and leadership competencies required to design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based public health interventions that improve population health outcomes.
The programme will be implemented using face-to face mode of learning with evening virtual classes held on Monday to Friday, from 5.30pm EAT, whereby the students will be exposed to interactive lectures, seminar presentations and discussions. Field practicums shall be organised appropriately.
To qualify for provisional admission to the Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health Programme, the applicant shall:

Candidates shall be examined in their coursework through Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) and End of Semester Examinations (ESEs), while the research thesis will be examined as per the university guidelines and policies.
The Department of Community Health offers a Ph.D in Public Health by coursework, research and thesis as a three-year programme with a rolling admission/ongoing enrollment throughout the year.

The 3-year doctoral programme aims at producing independent public health specialists capable of providing leadership at all health systems levels for inform policy, and tackling of the contemporary public health challenges. Graduates from this programme are expected to have acquired competence to serve in the public health space for the private sector, public sector and/or academia in the following area;
– Public health research and mentorship
– Health policy analysis and service management
– Evaluation of health projects and programmes
– Strategic public health advisory
– Publishing and peer reviewing in public health
