Our Purpose
The Physiotherapy program endeavors to produce health care practitioners who are knowledgeable, skilled, competent and ethical in managing and providing quality value-based physiotherapy services, consultation, education, critical inquiry and administration within the health care systems.
Our Story
Physiotherapy is the pioneer program in the Department of Rehabilitative Medicine. The Department opened its doors to the first students in 2020. The Department of Rehabilitative Medicine purposes to be a powerhouse of research that offers solutions of global impact hence improving the quality of life and practices in the health system.The department is among the few in the East African region which offer blended training of the Physiotherapist with high leverage on digital innovations among the profession. Our learners are attached in both Government, private hospitals and Non-Governmental Organization.
We have partnered with The Jackson Foundation who provide international faculty for quality training, clinical rotation mentorship and research activities of the Physiotherapist in the region, within Physiotherapy scope.
We work alongside the Larger Amref Health Africa to engage in projects that impact in the community with greater coverage and focus on Primary Health Care.
We offer recreational activities through the AMIU Fitness Centre for both community members and the general public. We encourage wellness at work and work life balance.

We offer Quality training of health workers, research activities and experiential clinical training.The mission of the Physiotherapy Department is to be a leader nationally and internationally in the generation of new knowledge and the training of physiotherapists.The graduates shall be distinguishable by their skills, ethical integrity, collaboration, leadership and public engagement. The faculty will be recognized as experts who contribute to improved health status and health care through research, evidence-based practice, education and professional leadership. We endeavor to strive toward individual growth, learning and scholarship, and collective service to the University, community and profession. We strive to be a community of diverse members where the highest moral and ethical values prevail.We aim to have research with impact to drive the profession forward.
