Diploma in Community Health Practice (Basic)
Course Overview
The Diploma in Nursing (EN/M and KECHN to KRCHN) offered by Amref International University is an advanced upgrading programme designed for practicing Enrolled Community Health Nurses (KECHN) and Enrolled Nurses/Midwives (EN/M) seeking to grow their careers in nursing. The programme blends theoretical knowledge with practical clinical training across four comprehensive modules: Pre-clinical and Clinical Sciences, Midwifery and Reproductive Health Sciences, Nursing Research and Community Health Nursing Sciences, and Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing. This course equips learners with the skills and competencies required to take up expanded roles in clinical practice, teaching, management, and research within diverse healthcare settings including hospitals, humanitarian sectors, and community development organizations.

Minimum KCSE Grade: Mean grade C
Must have:
C in English or Kiswahili
C in Biology / Biological Sciences / Agriculture
C- in one of the following:

Physics / Physical Sciences

Year 1
Trimester 1: Community Health, Communication Skills, IT, First Aid, HIV/AIDS, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Basic Math.
Trimester 2: PHC, Communicable Diseases I, WASH, Waste Management, Community Psychology, Basic Statistics.
Trimester 3: Nutrition, Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, Reproductive Health, Maternal & Child Health, Food Safety, CBHC.
Year 2
Trimester 1: Health Promotion, Occupational Health, NCDs, Food Security, Substance Abuse, Research Methods.
Trimester 2: Community Nutrition, iCCM, Disaster Management, Health Services Management, CHIS, Gender Inclusion.
Trimester 3: Needs Assessment, Project Management, M&E, Health Ethics, Advocacy, Pollution Management, Community Entrepreneurship.
Year 3
Trimester 1: Structured Field Practicum, Research Project.
Trimester 2: Continuation of Research Project.
Non-East Africans will pay 20% above local rates for tuition and all mandatory
