From the move to our state-of-the-art Northlands Campus to forging global ties in mental health and healthcare education, May 2025 was a month of bold progress.

AMIU Moves to Northlands Campus!
Our relocation to the modern Northlands Campus marks a new era in health sciences education. With cutting-edge infrastructure and a vibrant community, AMIU reaffirms its vision of developing Africa’s next generation of healthcare leaders.

 AMIU Welcomes Global Health Leaders
From Prof. Trudie Lang (The Global Health Network) to Prof. Calum Macpherson (St. George’s University), May saw global leaders visit AMIU to explore research, student exchange, and collaborations in global health security and One Health.

Student Orientation with VC Prof. Joachim Osur
Our newest cohort of students concluded orientation with a powerful address by the Vice Chancellor, emphasizing open dialogue, academic pursuit, and transformative leadership.

Thought Leadership with Dr. Musangi
Dr. Penninah Musangi, AMIU’s librarian, delivered an insightful talk on sustainable funding models for libraries, spotlighting EIFL, IFLA, and Elsevier Foundation as key collaborators for future growth.

Faculty Spotlight: Prof. Joachim Osur
The VC advocated for digital and media engagement to scale up reproductive health education across Africa—demonstrating AMIU’s leadership in health advocacy.

Behind the Build – Zakayo’s Story
Celebrating Zakayo, our Clerk of Works, he’s been the quiet force ensuring quality, safety, and progress on site. From site logs to workmanship oversight, Zakayo’s dedication has shaped our new campus.

Section 3: Student Stories

 Meet Rachael – Student Leader, Trailblazer & Advocate
Final-year physiotherapy student and AMIU-APS Chairperson, Rachael is leading a student-driven revolution in physiotherapy. From CME events on cancer care to CSR wellness initiatives, she’s now steering the formation of a National Student Physiotherapy Association.

Section 4: Partnerships & Collaborations

Global Ties with the University of Verona
Led by Dr. Alice Lakati and Dr. Lucy Njiru, AMIU faculty and students explored mental health and community-based healthcare during an academic visit to Italy. This is a milestone in international academic exchange and African health systems research.

MoU with CPSCM
Our Directorate of Shared, Common & Continuing Professional Development (DiSCC) signed an MoU with the Centre for Procurement and Supply Chain Management to deliver specialized training in healthcare procurement.

AMIU Welcomes The Citadel & UCESCO
Ahead of the UCESCO Medical Camp, AMIU hosted delegations from The Military College of South Carolina and Ucesco Africa, strengthening global educational collaboration.

Strategic Meeting with NBK
Discussions with the National Bank of Kenya explored sponsorships, naming rights, and equipment support to advance AMIU’s educational mission.

Section 5: Community Outreach

 Interaction with Amref Senior Leadership
Students and staff connected with Amref’s global leadership during the Senior Leadership Forum. It was a moment of reflection, inspiration, and alignment as AMIU continues its legacy with Amref Health Africa.

Section 6: Achievements & Milestones

Hosting the Primary Healthcare Practice Journal (PHCPJ)
Plans are underway to host the PHCPJ on the PubHub platform, enhancing the global visibility of African-led health research and publications.

                     

Section 7: Closing Remarks – One Week to Go! #AMIUCulturalWeek2025

Culture Week is nearly here! From June 9–13, our Northlands Campus will burst into color and rhythm with the theme “Beyond Borders, United by Culture.” Get ready for traditional beats, African prints, local cuisines, and vibrant student performances. Come celebrate the rich heritage that unites us all!
